G&L guitars were formed in the late 70s by Leo Fender, George Fullerton and Dale Hyatt after Leo Fender had produced instruments for Music Man. These guitars are well-built instruments with the classic vibe and sound that you’d expect from any guitar designed by Leo Fender.
The ASAT Special, as the model became known, features jumbo single-coil Magnetic Field Design™ pickups, each with a narrow bobbin aperture for a coil which is shallow yet wide. In this regard, an MFD™ jumbo single coil is similar to a P-90 or Jazzmaster® pickup, yet the MFD principle provides a punchier bottom end and brighter top end sparkling with harmonics.
MFD Pickup Magnetic Field Design™ – This pickup uses a ceramic bar over a magnet rather than a traditional Alnico magnet. This is so that you can set the output of each string rather than the overall volume like you would with traditional singlecoils.
G&L Saddle-Lock bridge – This is the use of a small allen screw on the side of the bridge to remove side-to-side movement of the string saddles. By keeping the locking saddles together, you’ll prevent loss of sustain.
